I’ll go you one better than that, Paul. I think that these applications should use an xml format to denote the markups to a given web-page. The information passed from one user to another could be xml/xslt entities overlaid on an html page. This falls more closely in-line with what auto-link does, taking advantage of the legal gray area surrounding local content ownership. It also puts the data in a non-proprietary format, opening the technology to multiple tools vendors. It gives the user control over how the content looks in their browser and makes the browser, not some other tool or plug-in, the viewer.
