Quickie little development project

You know, much as I like writing code, I don’t have much time to do so for myself. Too many other things are more important. I have plenty of ideas, but mostly they don’t stick around for long (maybe I ought to write them down somewheres).

This being the case, it was really nice to see this post on Allen Searls’s blog, Wondiring. Allen wanted to know how to get Wondir into the Firefox search box. I poked around a little bit and found that from what I could see Wondir didn’t offer a GET method, so I commented to that effect. Allen corrected me and I spent a happy little while digging up the scoop and developing a (very) simple search plugin for Wondir (which you can get here (Update: get it here) if you’re so inclined).

Thanks, Allen, for the neat little project, and extra thanks to Doc for the pointer to Allen’s blog, thus leading me to this bit of fun. And yes, I do know who Doc Searls is.

Later: There are some issue between the Wondir plugin I developed and the Wondir.com web-site. These issues result in questions appearing to be double-posted. The questions do, in fact, post to the question board, but because of ther error the page that the plugin dumps you to says that this question was recently asked and will not be displayed. I’m hoping that between the engineers at Wondir.com and myself we can have this dealt with soon.

Thanks Cori. I tried it out and sure enough it automatically added Wondir-question-search to the drop-down list in the Firefox search box. Very cool. I passed it around to others at Wondir as well.

One thing to mention. Although when I ask a question through the box it does indeed post to Wondir and give me a question-results page, it gives me a message that the question has already been asked and therefore won’t post. I believe this is because somehow the process is trying to post it twice somehow, and the results page I’m seeing is for the second time. Any thoughts on how to get around this problem?

    Thanks again!

    Allen
