David Corn on the Gang of 14

David Corn does a great job recapping some of the many concerns I have with the “compromise” in the Senate yesterday.

To reiterate (because I think it’s important), the Democrats gained nothing here. In fact they lost ground, because now that there’s a compromise in place, when the showdown comes (and come it will), the Dems will look like the bad guys when Frist and co. deploy their “nucular” option and the Dems are forced to halt work on the floor of theSenate to maintain some semblance of influence. Had the Dems gone to bat now and halted the Senate in its tracks, the worst is that both parties would have been seen as guilty together, and at best (and more likely in my view) the Republicans would have seemed to mainstream America as the bad guys.

The scariest quote from Corn’s post:

In essence, a small band of moderate GOPers will now have veto power over the Democrats’ use of the judicial filibuster.
