Have you tried FOAF? I haven’t, but it seems intended to solve some of the duplication problems you mention. Sxip has some interesting solutions in the digital identity department. Your solutions looks interesting. I agree this is a big fat issue that needs to be solved.

Btw, have you joined the social software intellectuals tribe? Only one I’ve joined, outside of Marc’s containeropia. Good discussions.
