Rear-ended!
Getting on to Madison’s much-maligned beltline highway last night, I was involved in a substantial bummer. I was rear-ended.
Uff Da! This is, I believe, the first accident I’ve been in wherein I was the driver and not in some part responsible for the mess. so I guess that’s good.
Aside from a litle stiff neck, and some non-trivial but not crippling damage to the ole minivan, everything’s OK. I’m really glad the family wasn’t wih me; had hey been my daugher would have been hit by the glass that was where this window is supposed to be:
The impact slammed me back into my seat, I think breaking the seat itself (which no longer sits up all the way and is kind of crooked), but aside from those things and the caved in lift-gate:
I don’t think there’s any serious damage. Note how his SUV bumper made a fairly clear imprint on my gate.
We decided not to call the police, and luckily it seems that my implied trust in the other fellow - who was very nice and very apologetic and admitted fault (I know, probably not enough for trust to have been the wisest choice) was warranted; by the time I got home and called the claim in to his insurance he had already done so as well. Now I can only hope that his insurance company, Progressive, will be as straight-forward in their dealings with me - I know, probably a vain hope.
