GigaVox Media is live…
This morning, Doug Kaye of IT Conversations and The Conversations Network announced the founding of a for-profit arm partner for those not-for-profit organizations, GigaVox Media Incorporated. You can read the announcement here (pdf file) or listen to it here. Doug’s also announced it on his blog, and there’s likely to be some discussion about it there.
The important takeaway is that The Conversations Network and GigaVox Media will have a partnership in a hybrid for-profit/not-for-profit business model that will allow GigaVox to raise money and help to support The Conversation Network, primarily in so far as the software that GigaVox Media may develop will be made available to The Conversations Network without recompense (a critical part of keeping TCN a not-for-profit company). This will allow The Conversations Network to remain a viable company based only on the voluntary subscription fees that many TCN users pay. As Doug mentions, there’s much more that GigaVox Media will do as a separate company as well.
I’ve been involved with Doug’s open-source audio vision for IT Conversations and later The Conversations Network almost since the beginning of the team over there. I started out working with Doug as a way to repay the value I was getting from ITC for free, and stayed long after I stopped having time to listen to as many podcasts because it’s been incredibly rewarding and educational experience, and because I believe whole-heartedly in Doug’s vision. All along Doug’s drive, commitment, and talent have been an inspiration.
Please drop by and read or listen to the announcement, and continue to support The Conversations Network. And if you’ve not visited TCN, you’re missing out on some great podcasts.
