Mifflin St. Co-op Will Close Dec. 8

I only ever shopped there once, but this saddens me:

Monday night, the co-op membership voted 83-3 to grant the board the authority to close the store and take whatever steps are necessary to address lingering debt and back taxes. “We needed to close to explore what our options are,” said board member Jennifer Feyerherm. from Mifflin St. Co-op Will Close Dec. 8

Only the bright side, I missed this in the Isthmus:

When Stoughton’s Main Street Market closed last June after 22 years, town residents didn’t take the news lying down. “I heard from people all over the city after we lost the store,” says Stoughton Mayor Helen Johnson. “More people called on this issue than any other.” Left with only one supermarket and hungry for more local shopping choices, citizens formed a group to explore the possibility of opening a cooperative grocery.

Currently listening to Bean An Fhir Rua (The Red Hair) by The Chieftains from Water from the Well.  A fitting, melancholy tune.
